The plant will produce 40,000 tons of pentaerythritol and 26,000 tons of calcium formate.
The Indian arm of Swedish multinational Perstorp has opened a new state-of-the-art plant at Saykha GIDC estate near Bharuch.
The plant will manufacture premium ISCC Plus certified pentaerythritol and related products to meet the needs of Asian markets, including India. The company signed a memorandum of understanding with the Indian government in 2016 as part of its ‘Make in India’ strategy.
“This is the largest investment in Asia in Perstorp’s history,” said Ib Jensen, Perstorp’s CEO. The plant will produce 40,000 tonnes of pentaerythritol and 26,000 tonnes of calcium formate – an important raw material for the production of tile additives and animal feed/industrial feed.
“The new plant will further strengthen Perstorp’s position as a sustainable and reliable partner in Asia,” said Gorm Jensen, Executive Vice President Commercial and Innovation at Perstorp.
Jensen added: “The Sayakha plant is strategically located close to ports, railways and roads. This will help Perstorp efficiently supply products to India and throughout Asia.”
The Sayaka plant will manufacture Penta’s product line, including the ISCC PLUS certified Voxtar brand made from renewable feedstock, as well as Penta monomers and calcium formate. The plant will use renewable feedstock and run on combined heat and power. The products will help reduce the carbon footprint.
Vinod Tiwari, Managing Director, Perstorp India, said, “The plant will employ 120 people and will help reduce delivery times for customers. As far as corporate social responsibility is concerned, the company has planted around 225,000 mangrove trees on 90 hectares of land near Ambeta village in Waghra taluka and installed solar street lights in nearby rural areas before the plant became operational.”
The event was attended by Consul General of Sweden in India Sven Otsbarg, High Commissioner of Malaysia in India Dato’ Mustufa, Collector Tushar Sumera and Member of the Legislative Assembly Arunsinh Rana.
